Default After Landing

After Landing, When one applies how much time it takes to get the SIN Card, and
during this period (before issuance of SIN Card) one can work or not ?

It takes about 4 weeks or so to get SIN card in mail after application, but if you go
in person to apply for SIN then you may get your number on the spot and this is all
you need for employer - the number. Card will come later anyway.

You wil not get your number on the spot but what you will get is a receipt of your
application for a SIN card. You can work as you have a right to do so. The problem is
that most employers look for SIN card as evidence of right t work in Canada.

All my clients in past several years who were applying in person for SIN here in
Vancouver were given their number when asked for it. The latest one was just last
week - so, nothing changed, at least here in Vancouver...

Jim, unless they changed the rule recently, I think Andrew is right. You get the
number on the spot. I am pretty sure I got the SIN number on my receipt. But I could
be wrong. I have been wrong before.

Regarding the SIN, you will get a receipt. You may not get the number on the spot.
Since HRDC takes the applications as a courtesy for Central Index which is
responsible for SIN and other data info. However if you have a job offer in writing
they can do an emergency SIN call to Central Index and within 24-48 hours receive the
number. It might be faster now but I don't believe they can get it on the spot yet.
Unless HRDC has changed it in the last year or so. Heather "harley davidson fan"

Its a discreatonary process. Depending on the circumstances, and the urgency of getting your SIN number, you may be given the number on the spot. Other times you may contact them again after a few dyas and you can usually get the number. The card itself will come after 4-6 weeks.
