Hello everyone,
My first post and yes it's another boring question regarding CoPR
I am due to fly to Thunder Bay (TB) via Toronto this coming Saturday for 2 weeks. My partner is there for 1 month.
My partner (who is Canadian and originally from TB) and I plan to move there sometime between August and September.
I have my CoPR which expires in November.
Ok so I am confused as hell. I have read so much from this forum (which is helpful) as well as the Canadian govt. and the CBSA.
When I enter Toronto on Saturday do I have to start the PR card process?
Can I not just say I am there for a 2 week holiday and I will go through the immigration process the next time I enter?
I am worried because I am not there that long (9 working days) and if I apply on Saturday I might have left Canada before receiving my PR card.
We plan to look at houses when we are there and check out other stuff so in the meantime we can use my Father in Laws address so could my partner bring me my PR card back with him?
Also whilst I am here do I have to fill in a form such as Goods Accompanying if I plan on bringing and leaving clothes on this trip?
thanks in advance

My understanding is the COPR form has the eTA attached to it and if the COPR form is presented to CBSA for processing then the eTA is then cancelled as you have become a PR. If you didn't land and formally present the COPR document then you would need to land before the COPR expires. If you did a landing then YES a list of goods accompanying and a list of goods to follow is required.
Your choice which way to proceed bearing in mind if something happened between returning to the UK if not doing the landing on this trip and the expiry date of the COPR in November if no landing happens before November then you would have to start the whole process again. You can use the family members address for the PR card to be sent to if you decide to do the landing on this trip.

Yes, you can 'visit' and not land on your planned trip, as long as you land and declare PR before the CoPR expiry date, then fine (you will of course need an ETA). You cannot do any 'goods to follow' customs stuff until the later of 'land and declare PR' OR 'land as settler' (also explained in that wiki link).
