60 day Passport request's but still need them

We have just received our passport requests from London. But because we live and work overseas and travel on business we are not in a position to send our passports(UK) to London (and lose them for a month) until later in the year. This will not be a problem for us as we intend to land in Canada in January 2009 about 10 months after our medicals. Has anyone got any experience with asking London for a delay in sending passports off? Can you send different members of the families passports in at different times?

Some short delay (couple months or so) may be granted if you ask and provide good reason (other than convenience). Going in person to London (just one of you, with authorization from others) may be an option. Visas will not be issued separately - all passports must be submitted at the same time.

Thanks for the opinion Andrew. Hopefully London will be helpful. I find it hard to believe (hopefully) that they will just cancel my visa because I need my passport for the next few months; after all people must lose or damage passports etc.
