Default 2 year working visa - what happens if i get made redundant?

I have a 2 year work visa sponsored by my current company. It expires in 2009.

The company are laying off a lot of people, and if i am made redundant, what happens with the visa? do i have to find other employment and get the visa transferred over to the other company? or do i have to go back to the uk? Not quite sure what the deal is.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Here are a couple of threads that might be of help.

It seems that if you are made redundant then you will be able to stay in Canada until your Work Permit expires. But if you were to find another job, you'd need to get another work permit with the name of the new company on it e.g. go through the LMO process again.

I'm assuming here that you don't have an open work permit as you refer to your current comany sponsoring you.

So it would give you a chance to job hunt whilst in Canada so long as you can fund yourself I suppose.

Hope it all works out ok for you

My understanding based on searching this board is you can remain in Canada for the remainder of the term, but you cannot work unless you go through the application process again. There is certainly no 'transferring' of work permits (unless of course it's 'open' but I'm guessing through your question it isn't)

Someone else will confirm if I am correct...

Good luck and best wishes!
