I've attended a couple of football matches in Hungary. It's like going back to the 70's of ..... better not say the word ... might get my knuckles rapped ....
Suffice to say .... we always got home safely and the brother-in-law's car hadn't been scratched or dented.

Just found out that there is a big screen set up in the main square in Veszprem by the castle. With usual bars etc, may pop in to watch the England matches and see if any other Brits are there too.

Sounds good Cathy, should be a great atmosphere and you never know who'll be there as there are loads of Brits who steer clear of the who expat thing whether on or offline.
Our opening night celebrations were somewhat subdued as daughter is on crutches now for six weeks

Good luck for tonight everybody! Enjoy wherever you're watching it and hopefully we'll be celebrating like the Dutch!

[QUOTE=Lady Zelda;11295133]Surely, Hungary must win with Ferenc Puskas playing the ghost soccer , He, he....
...he was one of the greatest players of all time. In 1952 he became Olympic champion and he led the Hungarian nation to the final of the 1954 World Cup. He was named the tournament's best player. Hungary never got a footballer like him ever since....So I suppose that is the reason why Hungary did not qualify yet again
.
Whoever wins, it will be fun combined with lots of noisy men's from Mars. Just pray ( I still have to work it out how) that my husband will not get obsessed with watching it on his own. I think I am going to surprise him with a cheap flight to travel back home and watch the cup with his friends, mostly teachers and lecturers, who should be all available during the summer school holiday.
How long will this world cup last?
I am going to move to a hotel for that period.
I'm just glad hubby don't like football.

When your not a footie fan, the trouble is, it dominates prime time Saturday viewing, still, You've been framed is on before so yippee ( I am soooo shallow!), in an ideal world there should be a separate footie channel on main stream ITV/BBC together with golf/snooker/cricket/fishing etc etc.

Hi Gyogyszernelkul
,
You made me smile. Great name! You may need some gyogyszer after watching more of the English team losing. Not a good start. I never watch football, but after last night's disappointment there is no point on getting stressed over who is going to win. Get your medication ready!
As I said before, Hungary will win, as always
!
Enjoy football anyway...

Well he certainly did just that! What was with Rooney, age catching up with him or being played out of position? A totally different league I know but my daughter plays centre mid and I know that she hates playing on the wing.
