uk tv internet stick decoder for europe
Some months ago, maybe even on this Hungarian expat site, there was an entry about an internet stick product that could be used to decode and receive uk tv programs via the internet, including a link to the web site describing the product in some detail.
Unless this was a scam or figment of my imagination, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who knows about this or similiar products. As far as I'm aware, internet access to uk tv from outside the uk is blocked by the sites providing the service. Service providers use the IP address of the connected PC to identify an offshore location.
The company website for this revolutionary stick claimed the product was legitimate, because EU law requires that public information like TV programs be available to all countries in the EU. They supported this statement by stating they had received EU funds to help develop the product. Apparently, this new stick has special wizardry in it, to decode the incoming stream of TV data. Or maybe it was using mirrors to deceive, and generate a fake UK IP address. From such a distance, it all seems a bit far-fetched now, so maybe I was hallunicating. Surely, there's someone out there who has the low-down on this fabulous new product!

Hi logger
It was me that wrote about it and pasted the link. I paid for the item but a few days later I had a refund from the company saying they didn't have any in stock at the time and they would inform me when they would. Haven't heard anything since then and I got rid of the website so can't even paste it here.

Interesting Ria !
I gather there are legal issues about copyright which conflict with the EU media laws, so that might explain why there are no more sticks on the shelves. Or it may just be the company got gobbled up by one of the big players who have a similar internet service, and can make more money by charging a monthly service fee.
Granada claim they'll have a british tv and radio internet service up and running in about 2 weeks with all the popular channels for 15 Euros a month - instead of using a stick, you have to download their software.
I'm not very impressed with my current t-home satellite service, because they have very few uk programs. I'm interested in any kind of uk tv service that doesn't require a big satellite dish or specialist tekkie competence. Buying a specialist stick or downloading software is about my limit !
