You Tube has a few suggestions.
Not sure about drilling holes and filling it with diesel and lighting it after a good soak, think any neighbours would definitely complain!

Drill holes, inject neat Roundup with a syringe (wear latex gloves), plug the holes. No guarantee though!

Roundup is not a good idea. The only people who say it is safe when used as directed are the manufactures and those persuaded by their multi million euro lobbying.

Medium (size) stump is a relative term, about 30cm dia. perhaps? Anyway do you want to kill it or kill it and remove it? It depends what type of tree it was. If acacia then this is very difficult to kill as any part of the root system can sprout. Other trees are easier. One way that does work is to cut of any shoots as they appear and the stump will eventually die.

Generally an expensive option. Removal by a JCB is usually cheaper (and more available)

Trouble is the stump is near my cold water inlet pipe underground, outside of course, that was my first thought.
