Always relevant to post on here as well as other sites because there are always different people to discuss things with.

Interestingly we initially went to the immigration office in Buda which was rammed with all nationalities but then redirected to another office in Pest which was almost empty. Dealt with quickly & efficiently by a super official.
Can you please tell me, where is this office in Pest? Thank you, much appreciated. |

Re: Transition period ends, some clarification documents
New residency card arrived this morning but looking at the letter that came with it and also the approval letter, I can't see anything about returning my original Regisztracios Igazolas card which has been mentioned on previous posts ... is it still necessary to return it ?
Also a question regarding obtaining the identity card ... I'm guessing the "official certificate on personal identifier" mentioned in the letter means "passport" ? ! |

I have not returned ours also. Got our new cards about 3 months ago, no mention about returning old ones. Also for the ID card we took all cards/passport just in case, think they copied passport, can't remember.

Finally received my id card today. It has been a long and stressful journey but I'm glad it's all sorted before the year end.
Everyone seems to have had a different journey, even using the same office. |

I went to the kormanayablak today to get my I.D card but nobody speaks English in there and after an hour of struggling with Google Translate, the lady who drew the short straw to deal with me got someone in Budapest on the 'phone to translate between us ! It transpired that I'm in no man's land as far as the computer system is concerned and that it recognises both my old card and the new one but neither ! I was advised to come back in January by which time the system will recognise my new card and then allow me to be issued with an I.D card !

You have to return your old Residents card to the Immigration office that issued your new one. They then enter all the details onto the computer and give you a receipt confirming your card has been returned. Once everything is processed by the computer the information is sent to your local kormayablak who will send you a letter asking you to come in and apply for your ID. I did mine a couple of weeks ago and was given an Ecard until my ID arrives in the post which it should do any day now.

Thanks for that info Sachina ... I will do that then ... I wasn't sure about returning my old card as there was nothing in any of my letters to indicate that I had to return it but will now do so ... hopefully that will clear the way, as you say, to getting my ID card !
