Tax Identification number

Hi there is a tax Identification number on the letter I received about the stamp duty on our house. Is this my personal ID number that I can use for buying a car? I am going to apply for our address cards tomorrow but I have also had an offer accepted on a car and wondered if this would be enough for the purchase.
Thanks

No, you will need the tax number for buying a car (at least I was asked for it when I did) but you also need your "Regisztracios Igazolas" which you receive before your address card arrives a couple of weeks later.

When you apply for your address card, do your residency at the same time - there is a long thread on it which you should find using the search. You will be given your residency card on the same day and you can then use this for purchasing the car. If a tax number is required, not sure, the one you have for the stamp duty should suffice, so I have been told anyhow - not for a car but another purpose.

It is best not to call it a residency card as that can cause confusion. EU citizens do not actually need a residency card but they need a registration card. Non EU citizens do need a residency card which they produce as evidence that they are allowed to reside in Hungary.

Everybody I know calls it a residency card as its what you get when you register as being resident, even Hungarians I know translate it as resident permit or card. I would face more confusion with clients where I to say you need your registration certificate. One of those cases I think where the more familiar rather than literal translation is more readily used.
