lol :D Rural, is it possible to edit my message, posted a picture way tooooooo big for the forum, if I don't have access can you just change the picture url to this http://bjonesphotography.co.uk/wp-co...10/BJP0996.jpg cheers :)

We start picking out our carrots early from finger size for a little accompaniment to a meal and leave loads to grow to this kinda size and freeze after preparation in rounds, julienne, chunks and just in half for various uses throughout the year.

We don't use anything in the garden other than compost from our compost bin and chicken poop to increase nitrate levels :D

Have you tried putting viagra in the soil ;)

We find a rudimentary sand clamp in a darkened room works quite well for a few weeks but we tend to take from the soil as we need or want them now but still freeze loads... Although it looks like we will be buying them this year.

They are absolutely gorgeous Digger, how long will they stay in flower? Hoping to visit next week, if you aren't in Budapest, would love to see them.

Just noticed that we've got hundreds of colorado beetles eating our potato leaves. They're not fully developed yet but there are dozens on each plant :/
Need to speak to our neighbour asap to find out what we can try to get rid of them.

Re: Spring in the garden - what & when will you sow?

We had the same this year having had none last. I asked a neighbouring farmer who said that you can spray but unless you are very careful about getting under the leaves it is more efficient to pick them off and stamp on them! Apparently schoolchildren in the village used to be given payment to do this in the fields. He said that you need to also kill the smaller red ladybird like ones as they are another part of the beetle cycle.
For us his advice paid off. After a week of killing hundreds three times a day we have been free of them for a couple of weeks.
