Sewage costs
I'm told people on mains sewage get a sewage bill based on their water meter reading i.e. water in equates to a similar volume of sewage out but the cost per cubic metre of sewage is about double that of water. We have now got mains sewage pipes in our village but a lot of us are still using the septic tank...

You should only have to pay the sewage costs if you are connected to the mains sewage. If there is no connection from your house to the mains sewage - the water board will be aware of who is connected and who isn't - then you won't have to pay.
