Hello everyone, I need some clarification on residency please.
If you apply for and get residency in Hungary what do you forfeit (spelling)in Britain,
1.What effect does it have on pre pension age and future pension payments assuming you have qualified for a full pension.
2. Does it affect in any way post pension age and payments. Or should I approach the Pensions Dept for advice??
3. Any other forfiets ,
4. Does "residency" in Hungary mean you are a Hungarian "citizen"?
5. If for any reason you had to return to Britain how would it affect NHS care etc.
Any advice would be welcome as I have a tendancy to miss the obvious sometimes

Hi, can't answer all of them but in reply to number 4, residency doesn't mean you are a Hungarain citizen, merely that you reside in Hungary. Citizenship is applied for separately.
5 Once resident, you will pay either for private health insurance or into the Hungarian health system (pre pension). You will then have to obtain the Hungarian European Health card for use in the UK.

Regards pensions, I am not 100% but I think you continue paying contributions in the UK. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on the subject will be along soon.

You can be resident in 2 countries this does not mean you are a Hungarian citizen.
Your pension payments will be the same as before
If you did go back to the UK you can get back into the NHS there whilst here it is advisable to either get private health care or to pay into the Hungarian NHS also to get a Ethic Health card to cover you when going back to UK for visits.

Hope this helps

Yes, you can continue to pay what I think are called Class 3 contributions, which are the minimum contribution to NI so that you still get the UK state pension when you retire. Assuming pensions (or indeed the UK!) exists by then...
