Well I have to say that sometimes I moan about Hungarian Bureaucracy but I love the local face to face service. Popped down yesterday afternoon armed with medical certificate and documents. Waited about ten minutes for my slot, the very helpful young lady took my photos, fed information into computer, I signed a couple of forms printed out with all my details on, paid my 4000fts and that was it! She didn’t speak any English but with my little Hungarian we got by with a few giggles.
Brilliant.
Did check OH UK licence which will run out in 2021, so will keep it for now. Of course by then we will be NonEU and maybe different rules will apply to swop licences to a Hungarian one. Although of course I am sure there will be a reciprocal arrangement put in place!

Did you go to a "Kormany Ablak" for this?
Here in the town of Keszthely they have a central office - you choose on a computer screen what you need/want to do and then get a number and the office number - similar to the bank's operations.
And there's also help when you don't know where to go.
Very convenient and usually also efficient.

Just been reading a report that in the event of a Brexit no deal, the EU will no longer recognise UK driving licences and that an international driving licence will be required …. yet the UK government will continue to recognise EU driving licences …..

I'm just in the process of renewing my Hungarian Driving Licence. To answer your question.
You go to your GP but it's not necessary to actually see him. In the practice I go to all you do is see the Admin nurse who normally does all the renewals of prescriptions and after checking your health record on the computer and asking about your sight, she will provide you with a Medical Certificate which costs 700 ft

Mutual recognition of driving licences will be easy to negotiate, so I wouldn't be concerned by these scare stories.
Same as Michael O'Leary was on Sky News last night and said if there's no Open Skies agreement in place EU & UK for Brexit Day 1, then at worst he anticipates a week of disruption on flights to/ from UK - but more likely nothing or just a day or 2 of mild disruption.

Point in both cases being it's easy for the EU to agree on a win-win deal, as EU citizens have far more to lose than Brits.
