Lonely Planet published a very good pocket size phrase book. Pons offer a book / dvd course which is quite good.
The Hunglang blog is very good for tables, etc.
Duo Lingo have an app which is well designed (concept & functionality) BUT is rubbish in terms of the setting of texts (I am sure the text setters are smoking something!) - unless you are into "flying kindergarten teachers" and little green frogs getting off the bus!

Doesn't answer your question directly, but I found "Hungarian – An Essential Grammar" by Carol H. Rounds to be extremely useful. Unlike other Hungarian grammars and primers I've seen, it actually explains Hungarian syntax.

Many years ago I married a Hungarian (still got her!) It didn't do anything for my Hungarian but it does make the bureaucracy easier

Same here! (But maybe not quite so many years ago! ).

I'm considering applying to the University of Szeged on an intensive two semester preparatory course in Hungarian Language and if that doesn't sort me out nothing will! Probably worth the cost when you tot up how much private lessons would cost (if you can even find a Hungarian as a foreign language teacher!). Good thing about being a bee keeper, plenty of time in the winter.

You've forgotten a book of rude Hungarian words which you might feel like using when you've been badly let down.

Peter and jetsam - of course your strategy was the best, like mine.
For me the problem however was that we concentrated on my wife (new girlfriend at the time ...) learning German as fast as possible - because we spend a lot of time in Germany where no one speaks Hungarian.
here around Hévíz on the other hand you can manage as a German ...

Fentiger:
I got something for you - but it's German/Hungarian:
Dictionary of Hungarian slang:
Wörterbuch der ungarischen Umgangssprache by Thomas C Dahn

It also contains words of Jewish and Gypsy origin and new words used by teenagers too ..
But that set me back 40€ - for around 300 pages.

PS:
If you're looking for slang here's something which I haven't yet seen however:
