Public Transport Discounts: update
The Hungarian government's Brexit website has been recently updated. The section under Information for UK nationals and their family members dealing with public transport discounts for persons over 65 and under 18 now reads:
I have taken advantage of this a few times without problems both on buses and local trains.
... British citizens were entitled to a free travel allowance for those over 65 and a group travel allowance for those under 18 by virtue of their right to move and reside freely in the United Kingdom. UK citizens already in Hungary with a registration certificate and a permanent residence card before the end of the transitional period (until 31 December 2020) were entitled to these travel benefits until the registration certificate or permanent residence card until 31 December 2021. . UK citizens over the age of 65 with a resident status, as well as UK citizens over the age of 65 with a Hungarian pension, will remain entitled to the benefit regardless of the deadline. In the absence of a residence permit, after 31 December 2021, British nationals will be considered third-country nationals in the same way as UK nationals arriving after 31 December 2020. Accordingly, with those exceptions, they will not be entitled to this benefit.
The Hungarian version is HEREI have taken advantage of this a few times without problems both on buses and local trains.
