A Place inthe Sun - Home or Away

I've watched this programme so many times .... and cannot believe there's been no interest in moving to Hungary. I think it is a hidden gem! Plus prices of properties are atleast 50% less than those featured in the programme for similiar properties!
What do you think?

Re: A Place inthe Sun - Home or Away

I think there was one on Hungary - not sure if that show or a similar one - several years ago, before the recession hit. I think now, with the fall in prices in Europe, especially in Spain and Portugal, many buyers aren't having to look further afield. There was a surge in sales when UK flights flew to Sarmellek because it was ideal for a week or even weekend break - the spas of Heviz and Zalakaros are both nearby, Kis Balaton nature reserve and Lake Balaton.
Also, Hungary's press coverage in the UK - from what I have read - doesn't exactly entice people to buy here, Magyar Garda, increase in Fascism, Skin heads with knives and copies of Mein Kampf riding the subways, erosion of democracy, curtailing judicial authority, to name but a few....
I regularly have family contact me to ask if I'm okay as they just read or watched "some news report".

I discovered Hungary from that program in 2007, they were discussing the price of land near the lake with a couple of young males.

Just found this on their website. Not sure I recognise this rather optimistic view about investment though?

Response from C4 regarding 'A Place in the Sun - Hungary'
Thank you for your email regarding A PLACE IN THE SUN: Summer Sun: Hungary on 4oD.

4oD must acquire very specific rights for online viewing and in most cases we only hold the rights to show an episode on 4oD for up to 30 days after the original broadcast date; this is especially true of US series.

These episodes may become available again at a later date, if we acquire the rights to them again.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

You're welcome :-)

Given that this is from over 7 years ago some of the predictions didn't quite come true!!!

I hadn't seen this one, there is another programme that also did an episode on Hungary.
I think they made the right decision and can understand their reasons for not buying.

I think they made the right decision too given the 3 expensive properties they were shown!!!

Re: A Place inthe Sun - Home or Away

To be fair, they were shown properties in their budget and the prices were probably not far off the mark for what they were - the last one was a bit off the mark. There are folk who paid in excess of £100,000 for a 3 bed on the Southside of the lake around the same time this show was aired - that's what I would call expensive!!

Re: A Place inthe Sun - Home or Away

Yes I guess so. I quite liked the Héviz property myself, but not the price!

That's the one I was trying to find. I'm certain there was one on an apartment in Budapest probably more recent.
