Do you have the article ?

Not unusual but there seems to be conflicting information
https://hungarytoday.hu/govt-officia...-gas-supplies/

Probably a wait and see game - but firewood around here is already difficult to get and costs much more than last year.

The penalty for going over the electricity price cap is ""only"" double so not that bad considering the over cap price of gas is 7 times - ouch !

Noticed many neighbours stockpiling firewood. Much of it needing additional cutting down to size to fit in wood burners!

I was reading in my local newspaer that the price of firewood has doubled since last year. Also that 3 men were arrested for stealing 20 cubic metres of wood, some of which was sold. No doubt they won't be the last!

Fortunately once I've got them chopped I'll have plenty of logs to last me the whole winter. And with all the old wood from the renovations, plenty of kindling.

A theft of goods valued at 50,000 huf or above is a criminal offence, below that it is petty theft. Different penalties apply i.e. a criminal record and the possibility of prison, a suspended prison sentence or a fine or a combination for the first. For the second its a slap on the wrist a smaller fine and told not to do it again! 20 cu.M of wood is going to be above 50,000 huf.
Sometimes the owner declares the value of the stolen goods sometimes the police, sometimes the police 'recommend' to the owner a value. Some years back we had some wood stolen from our forest and the perpetrators were caught. We had the relatives phoning us up to ask (beg) us to put the value below the threshold so that their relatives would not get a criminal record/go the jail/get a big fine etc. Oh and we got the wood back.

An interesting piece of information. Thank you.

From what I've read in BAZ where the theft occurred, the going rate for 1 cubic metre of wood is 28000HUF which means they stole wood to the value of 560000HUF. Well over the 50000HUF mark!
