I thought it was 371 by September? Regardless, the recent change is more than welcome.

1.00 GBP = 372.089 HUF

XE quoted mid rate at 8.55am (British time) today. Hope it stays this way for a while.

well for today at least, key here would be an attempt at 375 anything less would give a run back to the 340s with an ultimate target in the 320s which would suit some myself included I like more forints for my buck but ultimately that makes prices rise in Hungary

I would recommend using mytravelmoney.co.uk as you can put in the parameters and it searches a few companies now they dont search all providers but it will give an indication of top rates for getting cash they also have a sister site for interbank transfers

So XE is saying 375, my local Interspar is 369 for £1. I am trying to make sense of what the commentators are saying about hungary being targeted by hedge funds etc
Can anyone explain in laymans language what is going on and whether the rates are going to stay high for a while.
Thanks

What you actually get is about 6-9 forints less than the XE rate. So you can use XE to check the rate and get an idea of what you can expect locally. The rate shown on the likes of XE is what you could call the "wholesale rate" for large transactions by banks, financial institutions etc. What you get is the "retail rate".

Whether it will stay high, as this thread shows, is really anybodies guess, so many internal and external factors to take into consideration though looking at historical graphs, there does seem to be a pattern when it peaks.
Some reading material for you here.

Hi Cathyg as rural says XE are quoting wholesale rate also known as spot rate 369 with spot at 375 is a good rate currently in the UK most are quoting 20 below spot which just shows a ripoff

as with all FX its supply and demand holiday season tends to see less favourable transaction rates as does higher interest rates in the country of choice right now the eurozone UK and US are all still at record lows so funds will look elsewhere for a higher interest currency

volatility is what hedge funds look for and since last April the Huf has been sleeping
