Mattresses

Has anyone else experienced the Hungarian mattress conundrum? :)

Our UK 'Queen Size' bed does not appear to support any mattresses found in Hungary - not even Ikea appear to stock the size.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Re: Mattresses

In Hungary the bed sizes tend to be the standard European (metric) sizes - the same as Ikea in the UK use.

You can normally get double beds & mattresses in 140, 160, 180 and 200cm widths.

Not seen anywhere in Hungary selling UK sizes and would be very surprised if there was anywhere, but possibly a specialist shop could order or make custom sizes.

Re: Mattresses

This is such a coincidence, while in Hungary last week I was on a mission to find matresses and beds. You can get a 150cm bed/matrress, but not in all the brands. In fact every shop I have asked in, are able to order it. A king size bed at home is 152cm, so it means you can use the same bedding. I have already looked out 2 new 150cm beds.
One more thing, I was looking at a 180cm matress in Ikea in Budapest, and it was half price at 70,000 forint. It was exactly what we were looking for but they said it would cost 80,000 forint to deliver or if I spend upto 250,000forint in the shop, they could deliver for 50,000 forint. Ikea is now off my shopping list.
Ask in all the furniture shops, because not everything is on display. And ask how much they charge for delivery.

Regarding the above, except Ikea.

Re: Mattresses

The 3 furniture shops in Keszthely have them, at least they supply 150cm beds, I didn't ask for a seperate matress. The one I will be buying from is just has Butor written on the front, not sure of the name, but it is on the roundabout opposite Tescos.

Then once you go over 1.2 million forints, the delivery price doubles  A German couple near us just paid 127,000 ft for delivery and 75,000ft to have two beds, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and one wardrobe assembled

Just to act as an update. In the end we bought a sofa bed from a local butor. The company mentioned in my previous post however were quite helpful and would have been able to make a mattress to order.

The standard sizes of bed that are easily available in Hungary are 140 cm, 160 cm and 180 cm width wise. You can go for these bed sizes and can buy the mattress according to the chosen bed. According to me, foam mattresses are best one as these are relaxing as well as soften to skin.

Mattress

Anyone know a good place to buy single mattresses from, heading out to our house in Vas region on 14th August, and am looking for 4 new single mattresses, for the 1960s beds already in the house.

Michael/Julie :)
