Making noise on Sunday afternoons
 

Did I read somewhere on here that one can't make too much noise after 12 noon on Sundays?
I've tried searching the forum but can't find anything.
I'm referring to using a petrol strimmer and mower. Sometimes the only chance I get to cut the grass is Sunday afternoon.

Paul - I can't point definitely at Regs. but I can say that our specific "Hazi Rendi" expressly forbid loud machinery noises on Sunday (& building work from 2 pm Saturday onwards). Also I have noticed around here that nobody uses garden machinery on Sunday & very rarely on Saturdays. It's one of the things I really appreciate about living here - the peace & quiet at weekends - in contrast to the constant noise of garden machinery we use to put up with, every evening & all weekend, when we lived in the New Forest!

It's similar here. Saturdays don't seem to be a problem and sometimes Sunday mornings but I don't recall hearing much noise on Sunday afternoons.

Ooooops! I rarely even keep track of the days of the week unless I need to go shopping or whatever. I will most definitely have used strimmer, mower and chainsaw loads of times on Sunday afternoon. I wonder if the dogs are trained not to bark at that time?

As some of the other contributors, I like the quietness during the weekend (and for that matter on weekdays as well). I honestly have difficulties to imagine that one only has the opportunity to cut grass on Sunday (unless you have a VERY busy job, but then again affording some gardeners to help out at other times should not be an issue).

Not if you can't hear the noise of a mower because of all the barking! ;-0

I've not heard about any noise abatement for Sundays, but each village is supposed to have designated time(s) for garden bonfires

Well, let's hope no one feels the need to introduce regulations! Self policing is much more preferable. I live in District 2 in Budapest and have never, yet, heard any kind of "motorised" garden machinery on a Sunday, what a blessing that is and long may it continue!

As you don't know me or my lifestyle I find it difficult to understand how you could make such an arrogant comment.
I work hard and do work long hours and as for trusting someone to come and cut my grass for me, that would be out of the question. I used to have a young guy who would do it for me but he went off to join the army. Most of the other locals I wouldn't want wandering around my property. This year has also been difficult due to the weather. Often, when I have had the time the weather has been against me.

I'm retired and live on a half acre plot of meadow. Theoretically I have all the time in the world to cut my grass. Unfortunately as a little old lady who's well past her sell by date, I have to employ someone to cut my grass for me. The student that does it, doesn't live in the village, but usually visits his grandparents on a Sunday, which is when he cuts my grass.

Living in a rural community, work goes on 7 days a week, particularly at this time of year. I regularly hear tractors and heavy farm machinery trundling up the road towards the field at dawn and hear them return at 10 pm. It's all part of life in the country and no one's going to worry about the sound of a strimmer on a Sunday afternoon!
