Of course - despite the pan-European nature of supermarkets (a bad thing ??) - don't forget a different country with different cultures and (historical) baggage will have different diets and habits which should IMO be embraced by people moving in to settle.

don't disagree with blending in with other cultures and diets. However living in the UK we are a nation of embracing every culture and diet and that's really what I'm used to. It's actually taken all of my lifetime to see vegetarian food as a big part of supermarkets and in restaurants where is I only thought it would take a couple of years. I can adapt but it will be nice when the rest of the world catches up with vegans and vegetarians which I guess is coming when we can't stand the fart gas anymore or its contribution to global warming. I'll be happy with a little bit of soya mince in a few veggie meatballs

Why do you call them veggie meatballs? Why not just veggie balls.

As for catching up, the world has been tripping over itself to accommodate vegetarians for decades. Ever heard of a veggie restaurant offering a meat option? I haven't!

Somewhere like India might suit you better? Here, we eat meat with our meat & jolly good it is too!

Bit rude mate really. I'm just waiting for the world to catch up and I thought they hate me in India too. Is no different to a special diet I'm asking a question where can I get something it could be I'm lactose intolerant would be asking the same question. I guess they are veggie meaty non meat balls. Meet meaning the Edible part of something that's fleshy and meaty but not animal. It's great that you enjoying me and so many other people do we just choose not to eat it and are trying to find places where we can buy meat alternatives. My husband prefers the meat alternatives as well as vegetarian dishes. Maybe that's an idea I could open a little vegetarian wagon! Only people who don't understand the reason for vegetarianism would say why don't you serve meat in a vegetarian restaurant. If you don't believe in killing animals to eat them you couldn't serve them in your restaurant but I would hope that a meat restaurant was happy killing vegetables for us. I am sorry that this thread has gone off at a tangent we have found the auchan have as listed as special diet and have some items.

Thanks Peter I have printed off so i definately don't lose this info.. Looked at Auchan and my food comes into the special diet area! It might be regional as you say as i have been looking at Szolnok

Don't forget that not only is Hungary a small country (population about that of London) the population density is give or take a few people only a quarter that of England and under half of the UK as a whole. It stands to reason then that for specialist people or items or minority activities you will have to travel further than you would in England or in the UK as a whole.

I posted a reply a few days ago but it doesn't seem have appeared. Maybe the meat gods disapproved
Basically, it was just to say that the large Tesco in Eger have various vegan/vegetarian products so I guess other stores will also stock them.
There was a vegan restaurant in Eger which was very popular and always busy but it closed last year, apparently due to the owners separating. We also have a vegetarian restaurant that has been running for a few years which is run by Buddhists and is also very popular.
And when I want to relax and wind down we take a drive out to the Buddhist temple near Tar (between Hatvan and Salgótarjan) as they have a cafe and gift shop there which sells vegan food.

A few weeks ago I bought a box of Bramley apple pies in Lidl. I had almost forgotten that apples could have flavour! The apples I buy in the shops and the ones off my own trees are so bland, I rarely bother eating them these days. For the last few years I've been trying to buy a Bramley tree but it looks like I will have to ask someone to bring one from UK.

I'm hoping at least to find some Quorn products and I've been told that some of the Spar supermarkets sell these does anyone know or is bought Quorn pieces in Hungary. Thank you for the link for Eger. Over a 3 hour drive for us from Zalaszabar but I don't mind a day out stocking up the freezers with good vegetarian products.

About the only thing you can guarantee with a modern fruit tree is that the seed will not produce a plant that is true to type from the parent tree especially if pollinator trees are used. All modern trees are grafted on to different root stock and the type is important. Old varieties that are not grafted will produce true to type but the older varieties will be bigger trees and will take longer to get to mature size and produce fruit.

I have also looked for Bramley apple here and failed to find them but the little research I have done leads me to believe they may not like our climate too much and they will need the right pollinator to produce fruit.

We have, just occasionally, been able to source apples that look, taste & are called "Bramley" here in Budapest.
