Kánikula

Kánikula i e dog days, heat wave seem to have started. We are staying inside most of the day - my wife gets up before 6 to water the plants because I'm still restricted in moving after my fall, but I help in the house.
How do you manage the heat wave?

The last couple of weeks have been really difficult ultimately for us due to the fact that my oldest son visited us from Thursday until today for the first time so we had a lot of preparation work as he came with an old school friend and we only have 1 bedroom. Also, we start 2 summer camps on Minday at our weekend house so lots of prep work there. We've had no choice but to get on with it every day, despite the heat. Also, there has been our vegetable patch to keep up with. A

nd yes, I have the tan lines to prove it.

The weather has been in the high 20's here since the middle of May and it can only get worse. My main concern has been my dogs, because the younger one doesn't tolerate the heat too well. I've stopped taking them with me in the car and am finding it difficult to walk them due to a serious lack of shade within a reasonable walking distance from home. For the time being we're spending a lot of time sitting under the shade of the walnut tree half way up my plot of land.

That looks like you were wearing a mankini

Seriously though, be careful in the sun. You can buy lightweight shirts with UV protection. I bought some for my son-in-law after he had a melanoma removed from his back - rated as 50+

I've always wanted a mankini since I watched Bórat :D What I have are redneck tan lines
I had a mole removed from my thigh many years ago so I do try and be careful usually. That day caught me out though as we have been incredibly busy. We have factor 30 here and my wife played hell with me for not using it. Something along the lines of "you've been a very bad boy. Now go to my room"

I've felt really sorry for the builders working on our terrace. Yup, not finished yet, very much a stop and start project. This past week they've stopped at 3:30pm. I honestly wouldn't mind if they stopped earlier because of the heat. They are not here every day.
Mostly when it's really hot we stay inside the house with the shutters down to keep the heat out.
When we go out we leave the dogs outside and they've had the sense to go to a shaded area.

I've had builders working at my house yesterday replacing 56 square metres of roof on the garage and woodshed. They started stripping off the old roofing at 8 am and finished the job about 5.30 pm.

One of the benefits of living in an adobe house is that it's lovely and cool in the summer and warm in the winter

I absolutely love your house. I like the artefacts you have in the nappali.

Now we got a door and window in the nappali the room feels so much warmer. We're waiting for the shutter guy to measure up. But it's not looking good as we're not happy with the window in nappali. It's smaller than we asked for. The window sill doesn't match with the same fitted by the same guys last November. The doors on kitchen and nappali should have a "mechanism " whereby we can shut the door outside. There's no handles on outside which our door/window fitters advised for security reasons.
We're waiting for the new window/door guy to respond to a FB message from my wife. We think he knows a mistake was made with the order. Not our problem.

Thank you.

I'm having all my windows refurbished, or replaced where necessary. One of the problems with an old house is that you can't just go out and buy new windows, they have to be individually made. Fortunately, the builder specialises in renovating village houses like mine, He's done an excellent job on my Slovakian friend's house the other end of the village, and her mother's house in the next village.

I'm also having the old tongued and grooved panels under the porch roof replaced and the exterior walls repaired, re plastered and painted. Have been told it should take about 6 weeks.

After that my family hopefully will be visiting again and we'll do some interior decorating where necessary.

In our circle of friends I seem to be the only sensible one keeping out of the sun at the hottest time of the day. We've had temperatures as high as 34C at 3- 4pm and I've been staying at home whilst the Mrs. and our friends headed to Zip's at Malyi-to. I catch enough sun in the morning walking the dogs anytime between 6:30-7:30am.

We don't believe in those weather forecasts, especially when they are concerning the future ...
Here's one that says we'll soon have only 15 degrees max on Monday 11 July!

How crazy can you get?
My wife and family were at the Pala(tinus) tó yesterday. Luckily it's now open till 8pm so it was enough going there at 5pm and no longer that abominable heat.
