Hi,

Can anyone give any advice on tax discounts in Hungary.

I've seen mention of family/child discounts, even a newly-marrieds tax discount. As is to be expected, finding the finer details in an understandable format (ie. for me, English) is proving difficult.

Does anyone have any experience of such like?

Hi,


I work for a BBritish TTelecomunications company in Budapest and I get the "családi kedveszmény".


This is a reduction of around 83,000 forints per child (under 3 children, over 3 is a different amount) from your taxbase. In my case I have 2 children of school age so I have 166,000 forints deducted from my gross salary before income tax is applied.


It isn't a great deal but every little helps. I am in the process of trying to get this backdated to when I started working.


Be warned though that once you receive this it complicates your tax and you will need to fill in an annual return - which is no fun at all.

Thanks a lot for the info. Very useful. It's amazing how much differing info is out there. Although to be fair, sometimes it is hard to tell how up-to-date most of the info you come across is.

(I'm a bit surprised you're even in the Hungarian tax system if you work for a UK company .. but that's another matter)

Hi,


BT has had an office in Budapest since 1999 and now in Debrecen too but the number of staff in it has exploded in the last few years, doubled just in the last year alone.


The company is known as BT ROC Kft (Regional Operating Centre) so it is a Hungarian company, and we deal primarily with the global contract side of things


It 's like a mini United Nations with all the nationalities that work here to support the languages required, and as a benefit for me the office language is English.

And if you promise to have 3 kids within 10 years you get 10 million HUF non repayable (i.e. free) and another 10 million on 25 years low interest. Check up on your status and get in before brexit !!!!

That is EU money? Perhaps UK is right to leave if that's how the money is spent! I know that Hungary itself has quite a low population but the planet in general is vastly over-populated and I think families should be penalised for having more than 2 children, not rewarded.
