It got worse again!
Poor Satan was barking and whining tonight and our other neighbour who is also in her late 70s told us that the dog's owners went on holiday and told her to please feed the dog and bring him water while they are away.
But of course they didn't give her the key to the gate - they expect her to throw the dry food into a bowl near the fence and fill up his water bucket with her watering can through the fence!!!!
I just wish for them to have an accident and sit in their car for a day without help ...
Poor Satan was just lucky that we had a few rain drops and a fall in temperature this morning - but then?
My wife already thought about calling the police but of course they're probably not interested.
If this goes on she and the other neighbour might use my wire cutter to treat the fence ...

Poor Satan .... some people shouldn't have dogs if they treat them like that. I wouldn't blame you if you used wire cutters to gain access but what will the owners do on their return?
We have friends whose son decided he wanted a SBT (Staffordshire bull terrier). He's moved to Budapest meaning the parents got two dogs to look after now. They can't plan holidays or weekends away in advance without making plans for the dogs to be fed and watered. If we're asked I'd probably say No unless it's an emergency.

Do you have an animal shelter near to you? If so, I would contact them to see if they could rescue the poor dog and take him to the shelter.

As far as I know there's nothing but my wife is still searching - hope we find a solution.

Feeling very frustrated! Seems I cannot walk the dogs anywhere because dog owners don't shut the gate properly or there's a hole in their fence. Two days ago a dog tried to attack our nearly 2 year old GSD. I hate to say this but had to kick it four times to get it away from my dogs. That particular dog whenever we went past reacted very aggressively behind the fence, hence why I kicked it. I'm not proud of myself but had no choice. I actually froze when that dog came up to us.
My 6 year old male sprocker ignores any dogs barking at us. My nearly 2 year old female GSD ignores them too 9.5 times out of 10.
Every time I walk my dogs I'm always seeing dogs being walked off lead. Being off lead is not going to stop them approaching my dogs. The only time I let my dogs off lead is away from residential areas and no other dogs around.
A few months back a dog owner walking their dog off lead changed direction and the dog carried on. I saw an oncoming car when the dog was behind a hedge. Luckily for the dog it didn't react to realising it's owner was not near. Had it done so it would have been hit by that car.

Seems like we're lucky - plenty of dogs in the village, many go for walkies, I can't remember the last time I saw dog poop. Most of the house owners work in Bp or used to, so are no doubt trained about scooping the poop.

I agree with previous poster that if you walk around enough, the aggressive noisy garden dogs just start to ignore you.

Our direct opposite neighbour in the weekendi haz (big garden) area has 5 dogs, one can be a bit noisy but I'm quite glad actually - you always know when somebody is passing the telek. Her owner told me she (the dog) is pregnant again just yesterday - so more pups on the way.

Where we have our family house, the neighbour's big black dog (massive) gives me a woof or two then goes off to do more interesting things. Never gets a walk but neighbour has a big garden.

Only a few dogs in our village get walked. Quite often off lead which annoys me because there's nothing to stop a dog getting too close to ours. I can't seem to walk down any street without encountering a dog that's got through an open gate or hole in the fence or is being walked off lead. Both my dogs are kept on their leads until we are away from residential areas, I.e. farm tracks. If I see a dog nearby then both are put back on the lead.

My neighbour on one side often leaves their gate open and their dog wanders around nearby. When that happens I have to change direction. I do see a regular dog walker with two dogs going past our house. If neighbours dog is on the street when the two dogs mentioned are there too there's going to be a big dog fight!!!

I often see one guy walking his dog off lead and he's always got his eyes glued to his mobile he doesn't always see us in time.

Reminds me of when I was a kid - we had a Welsh springer spaniel, lovely and friendly. The garden gate just opened with a nudge so Jane used to go off for a walk in the village (hamlet, more like, 15 houses, 5 farms, Bucks) whenever she felt like it. No traffic to speak of.

All went swimmingly for years and years, Jane was loved by all. Until that 3 year old kid pulled her ear/ poked her in the eye or something and got a nip, by that time Jane must have been about 14. Luckily the mum didn't make a fuss.

Living in a small village I know where all the other dogs live and having lots of different options for walks can normally avoid them. Whilst most of the dogs have had no training, I find if I tell them to "Hazamenni" they normally will obey you and go back home.

To get to one of our favourite walks we have to go past 6, dogs, two of whom will bark from behind their gates. My two dogs aren't worried, but a little farther on are 3 Viszla and a JRT who are often loose. For them I have a pocket full of treats which I throw in front of them and whist they're busy eating them we walk past..

If I were in your situation though I'd equip myself with either a citronella or a compressed air spray to deter any potentially aggressive dog and take a walking pole as well.

I will have a look in Auchan or Top Dog next time we are there.
I do usually have a hiking pole with me but due to my wrist injury I have to leave it behind.
I will try saying hazamenni next time.
I may have to drive somewhere to avoid those nuisance dogs!
