Hungarian Marriage Certificate
Shock ..... my wife showed me a Hungarian marriage certificate for both of us so it means our marriage is registered in Hungary. Yay! What else does this mean for me? My wife had completely forgotten about it and never mentioned it to me when she got her new passport with new married surname.
I have put this in my flying out folder so if I am questioned by the border police why I'm entering Hungary I just need to show them the Hungarian marriage certificate.

You need to present a residence permit on your return, not your marriage certificate. I would keep that safe at home.

Re: Hungarian Marriage Certificate
Marriage to a citizen does not always confer the right of residence. Hungary is probably more reasonable in this matter than the Home Office in London.

Re: Hungarian Marriage Certificate
My understanding is that marriage to a Hungarian citizen means that they will allow you into Hungary irrespective of the Covid 19 status of your home country - but you may have to do 2 weeks isolation which may be checked upon by the police to ensure compliance. Residence is a different package of paperwork!
Residence, whilst not automatic with marriage is, as I understand it, providing you can show financial security (spouse can help here) then it is as close to a box ticking exercise as you can get. ( The marriage needs to be of some years standing - but I don't know how many)
And yes the Hungarian authorities are more reasonable that the UK home office.

Re: Hungarian Marriage Certificate
In that case, if you're visiting Hungary as a British citizen, then a marriage certificate isn't going to make any difference. If you wish to move to Hungary for more than three months then you'll need to apply for a residence permit, either via the consulate in London or in Hungary after you arrive, in which you will need would need your marriage certificate but it alone isn't enough to allow you to stay.

Re: Hungarian Marriage Certificate
Fen I doubt you will experience any problem. Unless you have been previously deported from a E.U. country I think your going to be allowed into Hungary. You should start the paperwork for a Residency Permit as soon as possible but as long as you apply and provide the requested documents you shouldn't have anything to worry about. We applied after we arrived and had no trouble at all. You will most likely get a home visit from someone from Hungarian immigration during the process at your Hungarian place of residence. I think you can find all the information and forms online at this site.

Re: Hungarian Marriage Certificate
My Hungarian sister-in-law is helping us apply for a residence permit. Originally we planned to apply as soon as we arrived but with the 14 day self isolation we will go once that's over. All supporting paperwork is ready for inspection.
