Default The Holy Crown

Does anyone know the real reason why the cross on top of the Hungarian Holy Crown is bent?....clearly I have been watching too much 'Game of Thrones'

Opps!
Someone dropped it? Don't worry no one will notice!

Someone sat on it? Who left that there?

Most likely the person who fitted the cross was high on Palinka!

The article below states someone shut the box and bent the cross. I assume the box was designed for without the cross. The article below does state that the cross was added later. It also states the lower part is of Greek origin and the top Italian and the cross was added in the 16th Century.

I have also heard that it was made that way and the angle is the same as that of the earth...I don't think even the experts can agree.

Apparently there is imagery - painting, drawing? Dating circa 1762 which shows the cross being straight.

You must be joking! I'm so knackered at the end of every day I get to read about 1/2 a page before the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz kick in!

Read the books before we came to Hungary. Possibly was on the last one when we arrived.

Actually I think the person who fitted the cross used the same spirit level as the guy who built my house.

But have to agree with Polgardi, Honestly didn't anybody think to fix it! after all it is THE royal crown,

You can imagine the scenario....whoever damaged it when they were getting it out of, or putting it back in the box/treasure chest/place where you put shiny things, must have thought..."oh *!!!* it's the Holy Crown...quick...put it back in the box before anyone notices". And by the time it was noticed nobody wanted to take the blame, so it was better left as it was. Or at least, going by some of the workmen we have had, that's what I imagine happened. Then some clever Herbert decided it was at the same angle as the earth...
