Holiday Home insurance.
Hello all
Cant see a thread for this so I started a new one
Wonder if anyone could provide the best and cheapest home insurance company for Hungary properties. Best price I have come across on the internet is approx £220.00p.a for 2 million pounds shell insurance and £10000.00 contents accidental damage occupied/unoccupied.
Thanks

We pay about £70 a year for our house in Sirok, buildings and contents. Not sure of the exact cover (although I should be!). That's with Allianz
Costs about £20 a year to insure my MZ with them and about £50 a year for our Peugeot.

Cheap insurance is great if you never need to make a claim, I like to know how they behave in a crisis, it's difficult though, unless you look around.

You suggest that the more you pay the easier it is to make claim?? I don't think so. They are all insurance companies and none of them like to pay out, regardless of premium.
I've heard horror stories from people here who've paid top whack for car insurance and when they needed to make a claim the insurance companies were not easy to deal with and difficult to get money back from.
We didn't shop around and go for the cheapest quote. Allianz were recommended to us so we went there. I'm sure we could have paid less or more....

That's about right, that's what we pay, also with the Allianz. I would recommend them!

A reputable company is the main thing, I have heard of folks buying cheap online but all they get is a piece of paper, the company doesn't even exist.

I am having a bit of trouble in finding the e-mail address to ask how to buy on-line as my default mail client does not work on my laptop so I would be greatfull if you could give me it. Your price differs greatly from my quote which was through Intrasure (I think) they process everything in English.

Allianz are cheap and do eventually get round to paying out though we have found they tend to drag their heels and had to end up complaining to head office.
Also, do ensure you make it clear that the insurance is for a holiday home and read the small print. Some policies win't pay out for cracked pipes during winter if the property was not occupied, others stipulate all electrics must be turned off when unoccupied thus rendering useless most security lights and burglar alarms.

They are both in the UK and nobody in Keszthely speaks English, I believe there used to be but not over the past few months. We were in the office 5 or 6 times with regards to a claim and very minimal English was spoken, we were asked to use the office phone to phone the English speaking operator in Budapest.
