I seem to have averaged 400 the last couple of months from Erste bank atms. I kind of hope it stays that way for a little while at least!

On 23rd December I transferred money with TransferWise & got 413. Don't know what they are doing today.

Well in January I thought 412 was a good rate, I thought 421 was even better last week, but today it is showing a mid market rate of 434.
Can it really go any higher or is now the time to transfer.

I feel the same Duztee. In the 10 years or so that I have been linked with Hungary this is the weakest I have seen the HUF.

I'm about to purchase a decent sum though but will still keep an eye on the rates.

Hi Rammy,
I go back a little farther, and I have a vague (un-supported) recollection that 15 years ago the rate was in the region of 475/490.

It then slumped into the 260 area, so I thought I had a reasonable deal when I bought my house @ 375.

I think it is more sterling being strong than the forint being weak, comparisons with other east European currencies show the same trend against the £

Hi Duztee

Actually the Euro has slipped hugely against the £ lately and I'm thinking of stocking up there as well. The temptation of course is to see if it slides even further but maybe I'm getting greedy now.

Hi Rammy,
I don't know how much currency you are shuffling around and what age you are, I am getting to be quite ancient, so one of the things I have to keep in the back of my mind is the difference in the inheritance laws here. which dictates how much I keep in my Hungarian bank.

But then I would hope that any offspring you have are far better than mine, and more deserving of whatever sums you leave behind. :-)

For once I actually managed to time it right and exchanged a couple of weeks back @ 431.
Now it is already back down to 405.
