Driving in Hungary
Hi everyone,
I'll be driving from the UK to Balaton soon and am somewhat confused as to whether I will need a motorway vignette or not. I know what I need for Austria as I've been there many times so no problem there, but for Hungary I'm not at all sure. My route will take me from Vienna down Autobahn A3 (Austria) to join road number 84 in Hungary, which I will follow all the way to my destination near Balaton. On the map this road looks like a bog standard A road rather than a motorway. Will I need a vignette to drive on this road or any of the other roads or highways which clearly do not look to be the same road class as motorways? From looking at the map it seems likely that I wont be travelling at all on any of the roads which are clearly marked as motorways as I don't intend to travel outside the Balaton area and my only real distance drive in the country will be getting to Balaton and leaving again by the same route. I hope this makes sense. Can anyone advise please? Thanks. |
Re: Driving in Hungary
Motorways in Hungary are numbered M then number. These need a toll paying. All the entrances to these roads are marked with a warning sign that a vignette is needed.
The 84 down to the Balaton is not a motorway so no toll (But quite a few speed cameras) Have a good trip !! |
