Most of the larger insurance companies offer insurance here for example, sorry, it's only in Hungarian. Only time for a brief look but prices start from around £1.70/week.

I emailed where the link went to and they replied saying they don't do pet insurance, when its obvious they do as they have a picture of a dog on the website

I don't have insurance for my two dogs because vet treatment is inexpensive over here compared to the UK. One of my dogs had to undergo 4 operations on her eyes by a specialist vet over a period of 5 months and then was spayed a few months later. The total bill including eye drops etc came to around £400. I hate to think what I would have had to pay had we lived in the UK.

Reading this I wish we were already in Hungary. We seem to spend a fortune on vets fees in UK. Every consultation plus medication seems to cost £50-60, which is below the excess claim minimum. I would most certainly not bother with pets insurance if we were already in Hungary but over here it's more of a necessity. Unfortunately, the standard we chose no longer covers our dogs for their ongoing ailments so I have wondered whether there was any point continuing.

As with Sachina, we were not too fussed about paying as it was very inexpensive. I don't think we ever paid more than £40 and that included consultation, small operation and medication.

Georgina had her last major eye operation last July which was actually two operations because she was spayed at the same time. Her eyes were done by an eye surgeon and the spaying by the head vet at the practice we go to. I paid a total of £50 which included pain relief, eye drops, antibiotics, a visit to have the stitches from the spay wound removed and two further visits to have her eyes checked.

Same here with Charlie. He got bitten by another dog when we were walking through the village. There was a big flap of fur/skin hanging off his neck. He had anaesthetic, the area shaved, stitched up, antibiotic cream + tablets, anti tet. jab and pain killers and the vet charged 12,000 Ft (about £30). When I took him back for stitches removal I thought there would be another bill but there wasn't.

We always found him to be very good, much kinder to the animals than the previous vet we used and the prices don't increase because you're foreign!

Pet insurance is a scam introduced to the UK from the USA. No need for it in an economy where vet fees are "normal".

When did the practice arrive in the UK ? 1980s ? What did people do before that ? I suggest a close study of "The Loved One" by Evelyn Waugh.
