Default Cost of hearing aids

Both my hearing aids seem to be on the way out so I've been trying to find out the costs of new hearing aids. Seems the costs are guarded against other competitors so only thing I can do is book an appointment with Amplicon in Miskolc.
Since I've been visiting and now living in Hungary the only information I know about hearing aids here and support has to be paid for out of the user's pocket, via any benefits if they get them. All I've been told is they are expensive and most deaf people chuck it into a drawer!
I know hearing aids in UK bought on the private market are very expensive. I'm expecting them to be no cheaper although the support element to reduce the costs a bit but not much.
Back in UK I knew a few people who were able to obtain a grant from Department of Work and Pensions via their Access to Work scheme. Most opted for top of the range costing between £2,000 to £4,000 each! Only thing special about them were they had Bluetooth option to use with mobile or other bluetooth enabled gadgets and a remote control to change the volume or suppress noisy environment interference. Both not a necessity for me so hopefully the costs will be lower.
I've no idea of the brands available in Hungary so will be researching them.
My current hearing aids are Opticon Spirit Zest C SP. Now about seven years old!

My Hungarian wife has done a bit of research and average price is around 10,000 forints. Amplicon offer two week free trial so I'll definitely take them up on this. I think the main brand they sell is Phonak which I had before. Took a while to get used to the Opticon I have. Hope Amplicon have the latest Phonak models not earlier versions! There's even a rechargeable version which will save having to head into town to get a fresh supply.

I'm going to tell my wife off! Will mention there's other audiologists in Miskolc.
We are already customers of Amplicon so makes sense to use them again. We were impressed with their service when we needed new ear moulds and batteries. I needed excessive wax removed from my ears!

No need now to look into new hearing aids urgently as the new additional hearing loss I'd been suffering from was due to excessive ear wax which has cleared up from over the counter ear wax softener. But I do still need to order a replacement part for my right ear hearing aid. Probably have be from UK. Hopefully, there's an Oticon supplier in Miskolc.

Thanks so much. I'll email them to find out if they have the replacement part I need. My wife needs the same too. Her's got damaged by the audiologist at Amplicon. Replacement part was supposedly ordered but she has not heard from them it's arrived. Might try and save a little money by asking for the replacement part only and fit it myself. It isn't too difficult with the right small tool needed.

Oh dear I've done nothing about getting a new hearing aid. It's getting to the point my wife is telling me the TV is too loud. But first I'm going to book an appointment to have my ears checked for excessive wax. I do have a kit called Smart Swab but it doesn't reach deep enough.
Because I broke the No.2 part on my left hearing aid and also a year before for my right hearing aid and couldn't find a supplier ordered 20 ear hooks and 20 tubes from UK. Delivery was £38 via UPS. They were the only delivery company the UK supplier would use due to their goods not arriving at their destination. On top had to pay £25 import duties. What I ordered was around £35 so delivery and import duties massively upped the costs. Both my wife and I have two hearing aids so splitting the cost between four hearing aids doesn't sound so bad. On top we have a ready supply of replacement parts. Over time the tube hardens and needs replacing. The ear hook over time becomes brittle so when removing the tube you can break the tip of the ear hook.
I just had a thought .... if I could hook up a new hearing aids with bluetooth option to the TV that would be great.

My wife had to pay privately for ear wax removal - UK GP NHS don't do it any more.

I think £30

Are you saying she had to pay for ear wax removal in UK? If that's the case the NHS has lost the plot! When I first started working for the NHS monthly I was tasked to record the expenditure on HIV/Aids. Thousands monthly was spent providing free condoms as a prevention measure. I don't need to say any more!

Costs nothing in Hungary if you have a TAJ Kartya and go to your local GP.

About 18 months ago I paid 15000 HUF when I went privately to an ENT specialist who syringed my blocked ear, and gave me a prescription for my sinusitis.

In UK I used to get my ears syringed on NHS. The last time was instead of syringing the audiologist used some kind of new treatment machine. Didn't make any difference. If they still use the syringing method here I'm booking it!

I saw Dr Usama Sabbagh at the Erzsebet Furdo Miskolc, He speaks English.

And yes he does syringe your ears with a jet of water.
