caster sugar?
 
Hi everyone,

can you get caster sugar in Hungary? If so, what is it called?

Standard granulated is easy, and I have found icing suger - but I'm after the one in between!

1 Kg Granulated Sugar (Kristálycukor) - This is used as Caster Sugar. Caster sugar is slightly finer than granulated. I cook with Kristálycukor and my cakes taste great.......At least those who have died from them haven't complained yet :rofl:

You could, as suggested on the internet, blend the granulated sugar to make it finer, but as said Kristálycukor (Crystal Sugar) works for me.

Thanks. In most cases granualated should work fine - just wondered whether caster was available.

Look for the packets marked Finom, this is the fine sugar.

If you look in the British section in Tesco you can often find 500gr bags of Castor Sugar, but it's very expensive.

A bit OT re sugar:

I'm in Germany right now and just saw an ad for our supermarkez Real (not connected to the Hungarian Real):

A kilo of sugar costs 65 Cents - compare that to around 250 HUF in Hungary!

And even more OT:

Lidl is selling Kerrygold butter (250Gram)for 1,22€ this week!
I bought a dozen packages - it's my wife's favourite ...

Been selling Kerrygold Butter for months now Lidl Keszthely, the German butter is very nice.

As a matter of interest, you can make your own caster and icing sugar simply by grinding normal granulated sugar in an electric coffee mill. I do this all the time. The timing is tricky but but icing sugar takes the longest since it's super fine.
