Car / Van Tyres

I'm just getting my LDV Convoy van ready for putting onto Hungarian plates. I'm told that in Hungary all tyres on a vehicle must be the same make and tread pattern, is this correct? It is a 6 wheel van so I might end up having to buy 6 new tyres if this is the case.

As far as I know the tyres on a axle must be the same but can differ front to rear (given that you can't mix crossplys and radials). For some reason the spare does not seem to count - until you want to use it.

Thanks Peter, I might get away with only buying 4 then.

I was told something similar recently. The tyres on the same axle must be the same make and tread pattern but can be different on front and rear.

Hello Fidobsa
We have friends coming over next month to their second home here and he was asking a couple of days ago how much to put his Freelander on Hungarian plates. What I would like to ask is are you still doing it through Bosch garage Keszthely.
Cheers

Fib, it's definitely same tyres on same axle. I know because when I had my winter tyres done last time, I needed two new ones and the guy swapped my rear good one to the front so they matched and the new ones went on the back - he said really all four should have been changed but it would be okay.

If still unsure, Mr RH can give Nagy a call before you go in just to double check.

No, the Bosch garage no longer offer that service. We took it to a place near OBI in Nagykanizsa for a check over to see what it needs to get through a Hungarian MoT. I think they might be trying to generate extra work for themselves though. A couple of items they said were worn are actually quite new, the front brake pads and the track rod ends. The biggest problem is the headlamps. Very few left hand drive LDV vans were made so the correct headlamps are like the proverbial rocking horse dung.

Thanks for that.

Didn't know they were still a problem Fib, let me look here as I could get them brought over, might have a couple of different folk stopping by on route the end of the month and could ask them to bring them over, if not, Mr RH could bring them.
