Bird nesting and trimming hedges

With the warmish weather we're having lately is it too late to trim hedges? We're seeing quite a few birds going in and out of our hedges.

For the protection of nesting birds hedge cutting should not be done between end of March and the end of August.

Oh damn, I really do need to trim one hedge because it's starting to overhang a neighbours fence.
