Battery consumption - laptop, mobile and tablet
Since we have been in Hungary the battery consumption for our devices has been excessive and we're having to recharge them every day. My laptop which I could use for at least four hours is running out of juice within an hour and half. I've checked apps to see which is using most juice but it doesn't seem any are except Google at 36%.
I've wondered whether it's because the broadband speed is slower than UK and WiFi signal not as strong so the devices have to work harder to perform at the level they are set.
As to my laptop I do suspect the battery is on the way out because past four months I had left it plugged in nearly all day and didn't realise there is a power option for it to be powered straight from electricity and not via the rechargeable battery.. I know there are only so many times you can recharge a battery and this is probably why it's not lasting as long as it should.

Re: Battery consumption - laptop, mobile and tablet
I suspect it's your battery rather than any problem with wifi or the broadband speed. I've never had a problem with any of my laptops all of which where purchased in the UK. My son and granddaughter always bring their laptops with them as well as their smartphones and I've never heard them complain.
If you want to get it checked there's a very good computer shop in the centre of Miskolc. Adam who owns it speaks fluent English and is very knowledgeable.

Good reply from Sachina. Likewise I suspect it's the battery, as I cannot think that any 'interference' from local electrical supply or wifi/broadband speed could affect battery performance of a laptop, mobile phone or tablet.
Also many after-market batteries (if you've had one changed) leave a lot to be desired and rarely give the long-term performance of an OEM batery.
Not sure if you do it, but most recommendations for best battery life suggest keeping the charge around 70% (not charging to 100%), and letting the battery extinguish completely every month or so. I do this with my 11yr old 17" MacBook Pro, and usually keep it plugged in when in use, and use off the battery when travelling - which is now infrequent. Never had a problem with the battery, which is just as well, as finding a replacement for that model is getting more difficult, and of course Apple stores don't want to know for models over 5-6yrs old, officially deemed 'vintage'.
For those who may not know, over on the Forums/General there is 'The Lab' which caters for all manner of technical queries. There are some very knowledgeable folks there giving advise on pc's, virus attacks, VPN's, Linux, Kindles, Netflix issues, pc/Mac refurbishment etc. A very interesting forum which has helped many expats.

Re: Battery consumption - laptop, mobile and tablet
My Dell Inspiron 13 had Dell battery power manager so if plugged in and battery not needing recharge I should switch it to electrical supply mode. Unfortunately I hadn't been doing that so battery has had one too many recharges!
My laptop is refurbished and battery life was excellent at the beginning. Unfortunately a battery replacement means it needs a PC technician to do it.

Not so easy on newer Apple laptops though as batteries are glued in to prevent diy, but still relatively easy when one knows how.

Unless you have a very unusual Inspiron 13, battery changes on them is a doddle, and certainly don't need a PC technician. Generally no specific tools are required apart from a Phillips #0 screwdriver, and perhaps a diy plastic spudger. The relevant iFixit guides HERE. The batteries can usually be found on Amazon.
