how best to transfer money from uk to oz

how best to transfer money from uk to oz
I am going to oz within the next month and i have a few thousand pound i need to transfer as i dont wish to carry it on the plane with me
Is it a case of opening up an oz bank account and transferring from my bank account? is it possible to open an oz account from here in the uk?
Also is this the best way to go about it with regards charges and exchange rates...
I am a complete novice on this area and any advice would be greatly appreciated

Yes your best bet would be to get an account set up before you go. A number of Aussie banks will allow you to do this from the UK. A lot of our clients rave about Westpac as they have a dedicated Migrant Banking Team and an office in London.

With regards making the transfer suggest you use a currency specialist rather than your bank as you will get a better exchange rate and avoid unnecessary international bank fees.
