Did anyone see the follow up programme on channel 4.. with Jon snow the killing fields about the civil war? I found it very distressing
:(

IF they want tourists they need to fix these prices - they're ridiculous!

Cheaper to do All inclusive for 2 weeks from the UK but I`m talking about 2 months to comply with visa rules from India! The cost of flights to Sri Lanka from Goa are peanuts compared to accommodation costs!

We stayed at the Pearl in Negombo - their front office window was full of ad's for houses to let - at a fraction of the price of an hotel room.

For a two month stay to avoid the visa rules rubbish you will have to go for self catering. Two reasons really the food in Negombo at the supermarket is very extensive in range and cheap too.Second is that the Sri Lankans cant cook without using bloody coconut oil.It stinks. But about the cooking i am being serious,.The food in general in Sri Lanka outside of the 4 and 5 star hotels is generally crap.......OH yes you will have to insist on AC with inverter back for the fans just in case.......power cuts are a nuisance there and with lots of rain you will need it.

We were utterly disappointed with the regular food and strangely the best meal we had in a month was in the German Bar in Colombo and it was German sausages with saukraut and mustard. Ser gut!

The best food i found in Coloumbo was in the Fort area near the old market. It was a Tamil restaurant selling South Indian food.Cheep and very spicy without the usual trappings of ghee and oil being lashed all over it !

Why? - it was a landmark, all the taxi drivers navigated relative to it!

Fine if you are a tweeker!

But multiply this by 60 days out, and far from it, especially if you are paying rent and other costs in Goa

It was in bad need of refurbishing. Easier to pull it down. All of the main hotels have major facelifts.

Try Sunday ("champagne" brunch) in the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo. Used to be about 20quid. As much as you want to eat and drink. Tip your waiter first.;)
