Ripped off? Fight back!

Apart from the ongoing fiasco of Newtons prices (good candidate for a first effort?), we have all been saying how every business seems to be out to rip us off, so have a look at this

http://www.consumercomplaints.in/

Cant work out if its got any teeth, but might be a chance to hit back?
Its pretty anonymous, so lets start with Newtons, shall we?

I can't see any reason why it will not work on any business. Obviously it is more effective on bigger operations.
I think the trick is to be proper and accurate and not fire-off on the web page, also brief.........

For example
Company/product name......................Newtons Supermarket, Candolim, Goa.
Subject of complaint..........................Overpricing of Indian Made products in contravention of MRP regulations
Complaint details...............................Persistent increasing of MRP by placing their own price stickrs over the printed MRP on product. For example; Mortein Mosquito Coils MRP Rs18, sticker covering it with Rs25. Very Many products overpriced in the same way.

Even if they do nothing about it, the likelyhood of a Google search picking up all the complaints will increase exponentially as the number of reportings increase.
This is a real opportunity to do something other than moan, so "Lets do it people, and hey, Be careful out there" (copyright Hill St Blues)

About few years ago one of the dailies printed the address of the consumer complaints dept in Panjim so went in search of it. When we got there nobody could tell us where it was so in the end we forgot about it.

And yes it was about Newtons (the old one)- when they put the prices on alcohol there was an offer when they launched "Mischief" vodka, it was 60rps (those were the days) and he scratched it off with a blade and then put 80rps in marker pen over the scratch.
We did get the money back from him after hubby went to see him and had a little shouting match in the shop.

There is supposed to be a consumer place in Panjim somewhere even now.

J5 have you filled it in re the coils - I will go in today and find something to moan about - sure it won't take me long.

You should have registered a complaint!

The coils were just a made up example to illustrate a suggested way of completing the form avoiding any hint of a rant, innit?

THe beauty of this site is it involves little effort and you can hit it over and over again.

Last time I bought Nescafe in there I was fuming at the price, desperate so bought it. Went two days later to Farmers Market, Porvorim - same thing 150 rups cheaper. :curse:

They also tried to charge me 100 rups more for suntan lotion when it was marked on the back - the normal tourist would not know items have MRP.:curse:

And don't take sweets for change, they will not let you spend them there at a later date:curse:

I know a lot of shops give you sweets for change which is much the norm but when I went in Newtons I notice the cash drawer was full of sweets. They obviously make no effort to get change. I wonder if they have a monthly target to achieve for the sale of sweets.

One shop used to give us 1 sweet change everytime we bought bread for 9rps until the 10th time my OH gave them 9 sweets back to pay for it. Their faces were a picture then they laughed but never gave them again.
He used to say in Luma - give me a iou not sweets and they did, I was so embarrassed in there I would walk out when he payed. :)

Betim ferry petrol station are "at it" now, we always thought they were ok but went for petrol today and he left the previous customers 50rps sale on the pump and pretended to set it to zero.
As we are always wary at petrol stations my OH did not remove the petrol cap and told him to put the pump back to zero. He did this straight away then did not look up again.

I used Dr Sushant Walke at Calangute Dental-Care Centre last year. Tel 832-2275320 (off) 832-2496284 (home) 9823180195 (Mobile). He only charged me Rs100 for initial check up.
