Remembrance Sunday

:)
Has there been any Parades in Goa today, or don't they go in for that?

vastly different history has them far removed from both world wars as far as the written record goes. But, many individual Goans did fight as members of the Brit Armies against Rommel in the deserts and various armies of the Brit Colonial days eg against German colonies in Africa and Asia, or in Malaya, Burma and French Cambodia. Remember: Portugal which ruled Goa as a 'province of Portugal' was a neutral nation with the oldest Alliance in history with Britain. Therefore Goa did not participate directly but via Brit armies across the globe. There were some Goans awarded medals in both wars but they are long dead heroes sadly. Many served in the Navy and the Army and a few in the Air force. There is a huge gap in recording Goan participation because they served under the GB flag, or the flags of GB colonies, so that today it is a long tedious trail to make a direct attribution unless you know the families involved yourself. Within Goa itself, there was the sinking of German naval vessels, but other than severe food shortages and transient spies there was no physical scarring of the 2 wars.

Thank you too!!. Goa does have a very interesting history and perspective. If it could maintain that unique character, rather than absorb a McDonald blandness for a quick rupee, the world would be a better place.
