Theoretically possible through SlingBox but you need Broadband cable or DSL high-speed Internet connection (Minimum Upstream Network Speed of 256 kbps) - dsl requires a landline so if you can get that, this may work.

ITV & BBC can be watched using a 'sling box' - a_f_d can confirm this having tried it successfully.

ITV player is a different matter altogether - I think that's a 'NO' - something to do with non-static IP addresses & proxy servers I think - could well be wrong & a mile wide of the mark though. . . . . . . . . .

does a_f_d have dsl/landline to have been able to use this ?
as regards static/dynamic ip's, per their website faq
Do I need a static IP address for my Slingbox?

No, the Slingbox can find your IP address if it is dynamically generated. Don't worry if you don't know your IP address and whether it’s static or dynamic. The Slingbox features a Finder service that seamlessly and easily allows you to connect to your Slingbox at the touch of a button.

Yes, I know slingbox capabilities (I have one) as regards static/dynamic IP addresses - I was referring to 'ITV player' when I made the comment about IP addresses & proxy servers - but I wasn't sure which was relevant as I know people have been unable to get '4od' - 'bbc iplayer' & 'itv player' to work when they are in India - I don't know whether people have got them to work in other 'foreign countries' - i.e. not the UK.

itv, c4 and bbc will not let you use play back if u are outside the uk, no licence.
use a proxy server, free ones are crap but you can d/l one for about a tenner that are quite good...but the upload rate will not be good if u only got a dongle (love that word, sounds rood:D)
just click on over night and by the morning u should have an episode of corrie or whatever.

ContessaQ is correct. I looked into proxy servers (you set up a computer in UK to pick up iPlayer and forward it to your Goa PC 'on the QT'). It might work if you have 512kb UPload in UK (i.e. '8Mb broadband') and a really good connection in Goa (what that?), so I gave up on the idea.
Slingbox works OK after it has worked out that it needs a lot of buffer - but only when BSNL are running flat out. I pay for a 512kb BSNL connection but usually get about 140kb - when the kids get out of school it drops to about 40kb.
Slingbox gives you a decent picture sized to about 1/4 of a laptop screen.

Good info Andy, and Contessa. The speeds available here make it a very slow job to download, plus, most of us are paying for a pre-determined download limit so surely too much of this lark is going to lead to big bills, innit?

yes, I reckon you'd need unlimited download even for slingbox.

Will you give it "a go" then and let us know the results please. We are all dying to know if we can download some of our favourite UK tv programmes in Goa and watch them later.
