JR is dead: Actor Larry Hagman, who found fame in hit TV show Dallas, passes away aged 81 after battle with cancer The actor, who was famed for playing J.R. Ewing on the hit show, died in hospital yesterday after complications with his recent battle with throat cancer. Mr Hagman returned to the hit TV show Dallas to reprise his role as cunning villain J.R. in the show's reboot, which started airing in June of this year.
