Unfortunately jcbrum,

I know of many people in the South who have encountered problems, been threatened with legal action etc. Many have not been able to register their deeds in Margao, perhaps it is lucky for them. I know of about 20 people who have been basicaly conned, though most currently have posession of their property but with little chance it seems of legally owning it .

It does seem the DE investigations are more in the North though.

Well, being there 24-7 both Poppetjay & Mywaygoa are best placed to comment, I reckon - especially if regularly visiting various ex-pat bars where I guess 'rumours' & 'stories' will spread faster than a 'wildfire'.

I too have sent a mail to parliament, but wont hold my breath waiting for a response, or better still, some action.
I tried to make the point that most Dregs had legal representation, but that this point appears to be missed by the powers that be. Anyhow, lets see what happens.

Hi all,

In theory is there anything more our government can do at this stage?
They have told Indian/Goan government that property confiscation of British properties legally purchased will not be tolerated or words to that effect.....and as no property purchases under investigation have actually been confiscated that we know of, is there anything more that can be done at the moment other than monitor the situation closely?

It will be nigh impossible to prevent investigations in any country including this one, at the moment our Government can only give stern warnings and observe until Goa takes the next step.

Regards,
Remy

i agree with you remy, but i feel for the poor people that thought they had bought legally and the lawyer or the builder duped them, they will not be protected.

Hi Remy & all

With respect its that terminology " legally purchased " we don't trust  as well documented here in the past FEMA etc is open to different interpretations depending on who you speak to and speaking as one who's fingers were well and truly burned by a Goan "lawyer" feel we should maintain the pressure on our government at all costs :fingerscrossed:

Hi KC,

But FEMA clearly states that resident FNs can legally purchase. Now we all know about the pending visa issue but i still believe if you where a resident FN at time of purchase then your purchase is legal.....but without going into a whole FEMA thingy again i truly dont understand what pressure your talking about as its all speculation and pre- empting until we know the conclusion of the D of Es investigation.

I also don't think we will get away with trying to blame the lawyers because the loopholes they promised buyers are now closed......the government will say we should never have been seeking 'loopholes' to start with.

Its like the 'tourism business set up a company' route.
If you have a genuine tourist related business and property purchased through the company you should be ok....if not watch out.

We have all concluded that they are going to confiscate our properties and yet to my knowledge this has'nt happened.....its the potential heavy restriction on visas that could prove more fatal in the long term. We may be allowed to keep our properties but alas may not be able to spend much time in them.

Regards,
Remy
