Thought it might be useful to go public with it on this thread? We dealt with Kashish Enterprises, 16 Neogi Mansion, Vasco-da-Gama, Goa, 403 802. Phone 0832 2513391, Mobile (better) 9890121165. email kashishenterprises [email protected] (don't like that gap, and have never emailed them. They took a lot of calls to get them on site, suspect it was the distance? Came across them in Panjim at one of those Consumer Shoppee things (The Ideal Hovel Exhibition) Their work was acceptable for here. The 3-phase switching box we bought in Mapusa. They are not freely available. We have one electrical shop in Mapusa that sells "everything" but not these. In the end we found one in an electrical shop that seemed to deal more in Commercial premises stuff. We have been told by our electrician that the Power-cut Dept(sic) discourage their use, for obvious (here) reasons. We have mounted ours next to the distribution board for convenience. The three phases coming in are diverted to the switching box, and return to the distribution board after. We used our electrician - they are so cheap and the work took about 30 mins. I do my own domestic electrics at home but not here. Its just not worth it. |

our electrician told us phase switches were not allowed - and to be sure to install one!
Does anyone have prices for the different sizes of Su-kam inverter (I see they even do 3-phase ones)? AndyD 8-)# |

Our Sukam inverter has a separate UPS output anyway. When they install the system you simply designate a socket to be served by the UPS output and use that for all your computer/modem etc etc. Just remember not to plug heavy loads into that socket. If you forget, it just blows an easy to replace fuse in the inverter.
If your home has a three phase supply, highly recommended is a phase switching box. This enables you to divert live phases during a partial power cut, and most important lets you keep the inverter live if its feed phase goes down. The actual box is about Rs1000. We fitted one this season and it has been a god-send. |

So a home made jobbie for 10k is a lot of money for something nobody in UK would touch with a barge-pole. But something you eventually learn here, offer the average indian a quality product for "X", or a piece of old tat for X minus Rs100, and the tat will win every time............... |

It is the amount of power needed to melt one ton of ice in 24 hours, and is approximately 3.51 kW. from Advert: 1.0 Ton LG Window AC Power Supply (Volt/Phase/Hz.) 230 / Single / 50 Power Input (Watts) 1280 Running Current (Amps) 5.9 someone seems to be using elastic electricity - 5.9 x 230 = 1357 not 1280 and OK this is a sort of heat pump so you can (somehow) appear to get more out than you put in but 1280:3510 is 275% efficient! based on those figures I suppose you could claim to run an AC on a 1.4 Kva inverter - the Su-Kam version costs Rs.21,000/- including batteries & trolley (see http://smartpower.in/compchart.html) The inverter pages don't give any info on how long the backup will work, but if you check the UPS pages: http://smartpower.in/sukam1.html it seems a Rs.45,000/- setup will only give you 2 or 3 hours of AC backup Personally I wouldn't hook up an AC to anything less than a 2.5 Kva inverter and if you wanted 8 hours of continuousbackup you'd need several dozen batteries!
