Works for me. I live in Goa and am still watching the apprentice every week - a weekness of mine as is the Jeremy Kyle show :rofl: Tip - choose a proxy with the lowest latency you can find, and don't bother paying for one, free ones with low latency are just as good. Once you have configured your proxy, a great test (to check if it's working) is to go to google.com - (and specifically .com) - not .co.uk etc) if your proxy is working you will be directed to the Google UK page, rather than the Google India page. Do not go on iplayer or ITVcatchup until you have performed the Google test. (Or else the BBC may get to know of your proxy IP address) If you are using free proxys from xroxy.com as I do, you WILL have to change them often, every 2-3 days in my experience! You will also have to find a decent one which works every time. On xroxy.com some proxys require a username and password - just ignore these and reconfigure again (and again) - you will get one which works for free! Once you know how to configure your proxy settings on your browser then you can view exactly as you like. These so-called "Expat Shields" are merely a way of configuring your browser with a proxy - using software which you download which configures your browser for you and goodness knows what else! - and making money from you! Best you learn to do it yourself! If anyone's really stuck on this and doesn't know how to configure their browser with a proxy, then PM me and I will gladly help! Julia, Expat shield appears to be ad' funded - you don't pay for it, and I don't see that any of the proxies from xproxy or elsewhere are going to do any better - the test I posted (www.national-lottery,co.uk} is probably a tighter test than Google.

This is better as you are manually configuring your own browser with the proxy details, and not downloading anything that will otherwise mess with your computer. No adware etc. Great to have a choice though!

Yes, I continually change my settings from proxy (to view iplayer and itvcatchup etc) to non-proxy (for all other sites). In Firefox it requires only 4 mouse clicks, and no typing, once you have set up your proxy.
And remember what the internet itself is! All your traffic is to an extent monitored by the Indian Govt while you're in Goa - far more to worry about than a proxy service! tee hee! |

There undebatably will be some form of monitoring by the Indian Government as no doubt there is by every government however such is the volume of internet traffic they could employ the huge number of graduates they are producing each year and still not be able to monitor more than a small percentage of it.

As regards govt. monitoring, i would have to be very high on somebody's radar for them to bother breaking (non-proxy) 128-bit https traffic - and that includes pretty much all financial or sensitive sites. AndyD 8-)# |

Monitoring does not bother me. I do not know or understand all the technical stuff but I am careful about security and as using a proxy server sounds quite risky it is not something I would do especially as I do internet banking.
