Dirty rotten scoundrel

Many of you know i lived in Goa for over 10 years before splitting from my husband, and returning to the UK
Things turned very bad for my OH, what with being unable to sell the flat we purchased and a number of failed businesses etc etc.
He wanted to return to the UK but was refused due to the indian government saying he had stayed there illegally for the past 8 years, (rubbish) but you dont argue with the IG, lets face it.
After months of back and froth to FRO he found himself destitute living on the beach etc etc, my kids have been sending him money through money gram, arranged to pay the fine and his flight, but he has now been told his file needs to go to delhi, this has been over 6 months now and the file went off this monday, we managed to get the fine down to 23.000/- but it will now go up once his file comes back.
the british government refused to get involved even though the man has a heart condition and is living rough.
He was mugged a few months ago by foreigners and they took everything, so my kids sorted that out and good friends over there, but the thieves took his passport, so back to square one.
As i send his been living rough and a guy called <snip> got friendly with him, we were unable to send money to him as he had no id so we sent the money in this guys name and my OH went to money gram to collect the money. this guy i feel prayed on my oh venerability and on monday my daughter sent a money gram and gave him the code, this awful guy took the number from the phone and cashed the money gram and took all his clothes as well so when your out and about and you meet this guy <snip> be warned his a low life ..... mean while my oh is sleeping in doorways and shut up bars until the indian government get their acts together :(:(

Surely now he has had his passport stolen the Embassy are under an obligation to help and as long as he has a police report they have to issue a new one.

we have tried everything to get him home, they are saying now that until his file comes back from delhi ( could be months) they will not issue another passport and even if they did without permission to leave its off no use.
Karen from the consulate offered advise and thats all this man has a heart condition, no meds, only food when my daughter sends out money and no where to stay, his sleeping in shop door ways or closed shut up bars when he can, and the little shit <snip> robbed him of his money and his clothes i swear this british government has alot to answer too, if it was a indian citizen over here it would be very different

I have no idea what you mean when you say 'he wanted to return to the Uk but was refused due to the Indian Govt. saying he had stayed there illegally for the past 8 years"...

I don't understand the scenario, was he at the airport and stopped by the Indian immigration officials? I can't work out how he came to be refused? I assume he is a British citizen?

Why don't you contact your local MP (Member of Parliament)? They can usually get things sorted quickly. Contact your local newspapers, radio, TV or perhaps a national newspaper eg. The Guardian, Independent, Daily Mail, Telegraph etc.

There is a long thread on the Middle East forum about a Facebook campaign for 'Justice for Natalie'. Perhaps you could do a Facebook campaign too?

Just a note of caution. You must understand you can't name someone in this matter and accuse them (on a public forum) of being a thief. You may open yourself up for all sorts of trouble. Therefore I've removed the person's name.

I almost deleted the whole thread but felt it was only fair to let you have this discussion, just please don't name names.

Thanks

I wonder if it was his real name anyway? If you were going to con people and rip them off wouldnt you use an alias of some kind?
the guy sounds evil whatever his name.

Have you contacted your local MP? Sometimes they are able to help in situations like this, or at least get the ear of someone, so his plight is highlighted. Failing that, it wouldn't hurt to contact news organisations so you can get the story of his situation out to more eyes.

Why was your OH relying on someone random in the street though? Does he not have any friends over there to whom the money could be sent? Sue's MP idea is an excellent one, that often seems to carry weight, especially once the media get involved.

(Have to say I agree about not naming him - its not protection for him, its protection for you)

PJ

What a horrible horrible set of circumstances you report - so much for the dream of a paradise in Goa - and there but for the grace of go many of those who bought their dream home in Goa. It seems the foreigner is so often at the mercy of someone else when in that place.

Please pm this scumbag's name to me.

Thanks for explaining - that makes a sad situation even sadder then - having so-called friends that you find you can't trust, is horrible, as I know from experience. Hope you and your family find a way to help him.
