Candolim Protest

Anyone heard about a protest in Candolim tomorrow (Wednesday 17th) ?
It is presumed to be regarding a threat made by Villagers last week in response to the continued non-removal of the 'River Princess'.
Designed to close the main road etc. and bring even more strife and chaos to a beleagured State that is slowly bleeding to financial death.
Watch for Restaurant closures in January, many cannot 'carry on'.
Could be a good name for a film series about Goa !!
;);)

yep, couldn't get to Parra / Mapusa by any route this morning - I think all roads into / out of Candolim are blocked!

Re: Candolim Protest

I think a many of us have a lot of sympathy for the sentiment behind this protest.
But why now, at a crucial period in the worst ever season on Planet Goa ?
One may venture to enquire, where have these oh so strong feelings been over the last 8 years ?
And by the way, this is just the beginning apparently !
Even happier days to come.
:(:(

I really and truely do not understand the goans, as the last post stated "why now" when everything is such a mess here.
I wanted to go to Candolim today but got to the ice factory and turned around, i live here so i can always go somewhere tomorrow but the poor tourists waiting by the roadside with their cases and just looking like" what the hell have i come too" reports say that people missed their flights, people had to drag their suitcases to various hotels what a bloody mess!!!!!
And there is more protests to come according to locals.
I dread to think whats going to happen here!!!!!

Re: Candolim Protest

We live near to one of the protest sites and went out to see what was happening. OK it was lively but as the morning progressed it became a little bit "heavy" as tourists were becoming more annoyed about the situation. They were not allowed even to walk through some beach walkways and also one road to get to their own place- we stood and advised them on which way to go to where they wanted to be.
Tourists were dropped at the ice factory and had to make their own way to where ever they were going.

The next protest is going to be on 29th December starting at 5 am if the powers that be do not do something about moving this Princess!!!

The reason - they will stop all the tourist buses going to the airport early morning so they will lots gets of publicity.

Kill Goa once and for all -
