I haven't really managed to get down to the beach much (and certainly have had no inclination this weekend, with hoardes of Indians around from Gujurat/Maharashtra/Karnataka etc.) but last week most of the shells were up, so even if not finalised some - if not most - are operating in Candolim

Would you not expect hoardes of Indians in India??

Most people from North Goa will know exactly what I mean.

Beacuse of the Diwali holidays,Candolim has been absolutely inundated with the brown pants brigade :frown:this weekend. A lot (not all) start drinking at 9am (throw their beer bottles into the sea:thumbdown:) and continue until they pass out. Of those that manage to evade passing out, a lot of them descend in groups of 10 persons or so into the restaurants at 10~11pm demand service, treat the place and waiters like s**t and then leave without the smallest tip. Most restaurant managers and waiters detest that crowd

In fairness there have also been a lot of the Indians this year who are educated and have been polite - you never know perhaps it's a trend:fingerscrossed:

Are you the reincarnation of Mrs Brinks Matt?

Why do you ask that??? When I joined the forum 2 years ago Mrs Brinks Matt seemed to be notorious for her negative views of India and Goa in general.

From what I have read since though, we have vowed not to visit North Goa again, ever!! and not just because of the Indian 'riff-raff', who gather there. I would advise the same to any Indian friends or rels. who asked me. We will stick to the South.:)

Funny how there is a North South divide. we have always stayed in Candolim and are always dissapointed when we venture to the south.

So far south that you are out of Goa most of the time, yes?

Loved the Mrs Brinks-Matt comparison, bit like comparing Yehudi Menhuin with a certain Mr A. Hitler .......
(incidentally Adolf and Hitler are both popular first names in Goa)

No, we spend varying times in and out in the Southerly direction, usually more time in Goa, and even when 'out' travel in sometimes for shopping or eating. There is no brick wall at the border.
I think Mrs B- M might faint at the thought!

I am suprised at your comments, you usually defend everything Indian, we stay in the north and on holidays when a lot of Indians arrive from other states in their monster mobiles we tend to stay in and around the resort as it is quieter and avoids the traffic jams. I just do not like crowds whoever they are.

I am really only going by what I have read on the forum from other posters. I haven't been to the north coastal area for probably more than 10 or 15 years. We used to visit particularly when the children were teenagers they liked the markets etc. we liked the beaches. Now I read in these posts of drunks, brown undies!!! ogling men etc. etc. It doesn't sound so good. Also many expats living there seem not that welcoming of "Indians" in general so I would advise my extended family to keep to the south.

Returning to the North after 15 years would be a terrible shock to your system.

"Now I read in these posts of drunks, brown undies!!! ogling men etc. etc. It doesn't sound so good" - those are locals or the Saturday/ Sunday Indian works outings.

I do take exception to you saying that any expats living in the North are not welcoming of " Indians".
