AMAZON, India

I am mightily impressed with the service from Amazon India. I placed 2 small orders with them last Saturday (one for the new Dan Brown "Inferno" in hardback, the other for 2 DVD's) and I received them here in Candolim by courier Monday afternoon - perfectly packed, and more importantly not tampered with by Indian customs / post office for goods ordered thro' Amazon UK. And no exorbitant Import Duty fees to pay - I've had many a row over the years at Candolim Post Office at the inconsistency of import duty fees imposed by Mumbai customs - all to no avail, I hasten to add!!

The selection (books & DVD's) at Amazon.in is not brilliant at present, but if you are here for any length of time, then you might just find what you want and save on postage/import duty.

Junglee.in is another possibility worth exploring.

WELL DONE Amazon.in

Cheers Iain

P.S. Just had an SMS message that another book (Guardian of the Dawn) which I ordered at 01.30 this morning after reading another member's post in the blog "In Today's Newspapers" is now with the courier, and I should have it on Monday:thumbsup:

Amazon India sounds great! Just starting my 8th week in hospital, the mention of Candolim PPPPPPPPost Office has sent my temperature through the roof.

Hope you get well soon Noni. I use Amazon and have some things sent to Spain where we live. Unfortunately not everything is sent here and we have to have it sent to our son in law who then send it on. The problem is the cost of postage to here.
Amazon India sounds great. Will try it out when we get back.

FlipKart are excellent also - and you can opt for COD so no worries about loss/ tampering.

Haven't tried them yet, despite all the ads on TV. I'll have a look.

Cheers

I have bought books from a couple of Indian web sites and had them delivered in Goa without a problem. I buy as little as possible from Amazon UK because they practice tax avoidance in the UK so I would expect Amazon.in to be as bad.

If you have decided to boycott Amazon because of tax avoidance then you should do the same for all the other companies that do the same. They are all as bad as each other but its the fault of Government legislation regarding income generated in the uk. Maybe the tax laws in India are more effective!

I do as far as possible, never go to Starbucks, avoid Google etc. I also belong to a campaigning group called 38 degrees who have campaigned against these companies and others. I stopped buying Nestle products years ago when the practices they followed in parts of Africa came to light of giving free powered baby milk to new mothers who used it, lost their own milk then could not afford to buy the baby milk and did not have clean water to make it with anyway. It is quite difficult now as they own so many brands but I still avoid buying their products.
