Hi erinsgirl,
100% agree, but get your grammer correct he said 'doles' ignorant man. how does he think we live for six months, we have to eat, use public transport, employ staff therefor spending money! We don't get any hand outs from him |
Re: 2 month rule and tourists
You sure do have to sign on. AFAIK the only benefits you can get in the UK without either signing on or going for regular assessments is industrial injuries allowance and state pension. Even then I am not sure you are legally allowed to draw state pension if you are outside the EU. This just goes to show what the Indians think of the UK - 'doles' for the asking. :p

Why not they are giving heating allowance to enough Indians living in the UK.

Re: 2 month rule and tourists
If you claim UK state pension and holiday in India your pension is unaffected. If however you inform the UK authorities you are resident in India your pension is not given the automatic yearly cost of living increase. This is only paid to pensioners resident within the EU. I understand that a group of pensioners from South Africa and Australia are contesting this in the courts at the moment but no one knows the outcome just yet.

Many of these places are pretty obscure, but a major one of interest to expats is the Philippine Islands. This is due to an agreement signed between the UK and RPI in 1978. Yet another box ticked for the Philippines! |
Re: 2 month rule and tourists
Steve, that is very good to know I certainly did not find that out when I read up on it whilst back in the UK. Where else does this apply to and why are these places the exception to the rule? Maybe they could be alternatives to Goa?

Steve? I explained why it is so in the Philippines (the 1978 bit) Other countries, it will be for varying reasons. I did see a list a while back of the other places but cant remember where? Alternative to Goa? Ask Poppetjay! |
Re: 2 month rule and tourists
And just to show that I hane not taken umbrage at being called "Steve", here is the result of a half-hours worth of Googling and reading crap UK Government websites (why do they have to bury the small amount of info involved in pages and pages of waffle?)
The link to the site is; http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/osc.htm#5 and to keep it easy, heres the list; Reciprocal Agreement countries Barbados Bermuda Bosnia-Hercegovina Canada Croatia Guernsey Israel Jamaica Japan - Further details of the Japan Reciprocal Agreement Jersey Macedonia Mauritius Montenegro New Zealand Philippines Republic of Korea - Further details of the Republic of Korea Reciprocal Agreement Serbia Turkey USA Yugoslavia * *The Slovenia part of the Yugoslavia Reciprocal Agreement has been superseded by the European Community Regulations. Please see the Department for Work & Pensions website for full details of our Social Security agreements with other countries. I said it was a weird list, didnt I? Havent taken the advice in the last paragraph as the DWP web site is one of the worst I have ever encountered, and I felt I might slit my wrists halfway through? Love and kisses J5 (Definitely not Steve) |
