Wills

I have property both in England and in Germany. I have tried to make a will to cover both but could find no-one equipped to do it. I'm now thinking I might be able to make separate wills in the UK and in Germany but I'm not sure, if I do this, if one will invalidate the other. Has anyone had any experience of this?

Re: Wills

It is quite likely that the will in one country would invalidate the other. If the two were exact clones, which might be tricky if the German one has to be in German, then it might work. ..... I frequently hear of people having two wills in different countries, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Hi there.

We've had this exact question before somewhere. Not Germany I think but another European country. I'll have a rummage around later on and see if I can find it.

You need advice specific to Germany. France and apparently Spain have inheritance laws (and taxes) which differ from the UK and probably necessitate having cross referenced wills.

This site German Succession & Inheritance Law | Cross Channel Lawyers suggests that the same may be true of Germany.
